What Does a Job in Construction Look Like?

Jobs in the construction field can include a wide range of responsibilities and skills, from manual labor to project management or supervision. Construction jobs are great for people who like to work with their hands and enjoy working in a team environment.   • High school degree or equivalent may be needed
  • Bachelor’s degree is needed for construction management
  • Project Managers require a bachelor’s degree and/or certification in their chosen specialization
  • Certification, experience, and/or an apprenticeship in a specialized field will be required
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA®) certification is required
  • Union membership is required in specific trades


Many trades require membership to a trade union, which may provide benefits such as health insurance, vacation time, and a pension.
