What Does a Career in the Nursing Field Look Like?
The nursing profession can be very demanding and rewarding. Nursing jobs include a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aid, Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), and others. Each nursing classification has a different skill set that can be applied in a variety of work environments.
The nursing profession requires a strong constitution, as they are witness to illness and, at times, end of life care. Nurses work in hospitals, clinics, doctor’s offices, schools, businesses, and in the military.
Requirements
- Higher education degree necessary, preferably a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) to pursue opportunities for an RN
- Certification by the state required
- An Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) for some positions required
- A degree or certification from an approved nursing program

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, growth in the career of a registered nurse is expected to increase by 12% between 2018 and 2028.
